Lumbini Buddhist University, August 6, 2026: The Master’s Degree by Dissertation (MDD) Program of the Faculty of Buddhist Studies, Lumbini Buddhist University, organized an Introductory Presentation of Research Proposal for Ms. Lee Ley Hua of Malaysia, a 73-year-old scholar of MDD Intake-2, on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the Senate Hall, Central Office, LBU.
Ms. Lee presented her research proposal entitled “Buddhism in Action: Role of Tzu Chi in the Eradication of Poverty in Lumbini.” Her presentation marked an important stage in her academic journey and demonstrated the value of lifelong learning, continued intellectual engagement, and the pursuit of advanced education at every stage of life.
The session was chaired by Dr. Manik Ratna Shakya, Vice-Chancellor of Lumbini Buddhist University, while Prof. Basanta Bidari, Member Secretary of the MDD Committee and Mr. Kabir Shakya, Lecturer, served as commentators. They provided academic observations, constructive
comments, and suggestions to further strengthen the research proposal and guide the scholar in the subsequent stages of her research.
The presentation covered key components of the proposed study, including the research background, research problem, objectives, research questions, literature review, methodology, expected outcomes and significance of the study. The academic discussion provided the scholar with valuable direction for refining the research focus, methodology and overall proposal for future research work.
The presentation reflects the MDD Program’s emphasis on academic dialogue, expert guidance, research quality and continuous scholarly development. It also highlights the inclusive nature of higher education, where academic curiosity and the pursuit of knowledge can continue throughout life.
Ms. Lee Ley Hua is a scholar of MDD Intake-2, an international research-based master’s program offered by the Faculty of Buddhist Studies at Lumbini Buddhist University. Her participation in the program represents an inspiring example of lifelong learning and continued engagement with Buddhist scholarship and research.
The presentation was coordinated by Mr. Kamal Thapa, Assistant Lecturer and Coordinator of the MDD Program, Faculty of Buddhist Studies, Lumbini Buddhist University.
