Program Validation Review — Master’s in Unmanned Aerial Sytems Engineering, Operations & Management

Validation Seminar–2026

The Faculty of Development Studies and Applied Sciences at Lumbini Buddhist University successfully conducted the Validation Seminar–2026 for the proposed Master’s in Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Engineering, Operations & Management under the theme “Program Validation Review — Academic Standards & Curriculum Assessment.” The seminar brought together specialists in aerospace technology, drone experts, engineering students, and university faculty members to critically evaluate the academic structure, curriculum design, regulatory alignment, and innovation potential of the proposed program. The review committee examined course outcomes, credit distribution, laboratory components, research integration, and industry collaboration mechanisms to ensure that the program meets national higher education standards while aligning with global academic benchmarks. Experts appreciated the curriculum’s balanced focus on UAS design engineering, flight operations management, aviation safety systems, and applied research, while recommending enhanced simulation laboratories, AI-based autonomous navigation modules, and stronger field-based operational training.

On the regulatory side, experts discussed Nepal’s drone operation guidelines issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), highlighting the importance of embedding legal and compliance training within the curriculum. The discussion emphasized that students must gain practical understanding of airspace management, licensing procedures, risk assessment protocols, and safety reporting systems under Nepal’s aviation framework. Furthermore, participants stressed the importance of incorporating international regulatory perspectives, including standards established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), to ensure graduates are equipped to operate across multiple jurisdictions and comply with global aviation standards. It was collectively emphasized that regulatory literacy is no longer optional in the UAS sector but a core professional competency essential for safe, ethical, and legally compliant operations.

The seminar also generated valuable discussions on innovation and future opportunities, including the integration of artificial intelligence in autonomous flight systems, drone applications in agriculture, disaster management, and environmental monitoring, and the establishment of a Drone Innovation and Testing Center within the university. Engineering students actively contributed ideas, demonstrating strong enthusiasm for research-driven and application-oriented learning. Faculty members and external specialists collectively endorsed the strategic relevance of the program and encouraged continuous curriculum updates, strengthened laboratory infrastructure, and expanded collaboration with national and international aerospace institutions.

The Validation Seminar–2026 concluded with a strong consensus that the proposed Master’s program meets essential academic standards and reflects a forward-looking curriculum grounded in innovation, compliance, and applied engineering excellence. Constructive recommendations were formally recorded to refine regulatory modules and enhance practical training components. The meeting reaffirmed Lumbini Buddhist University’s commitment to advancing interdisciplinary, technology-driven education that supports national development while aligning with global aviation standards, marking a significant milestone toward the formal approval and implementation of the program.
