Lumbini, 17 Nov 24: In a significant step towards strengthening bilateral ties, Lumbini Buddhist University today unveiled a Friendship Pillar symbolizing the enduring bond between Nepal and China. The ceremony took place at the university’s Faculty of Buddhist Studies, located in the sacred birthplace of Lord Buddha.
The unveiling was graced by Prof. Dr. Subarna Lal Bajracharya, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, and Li Pozyu, the Chairman of the Nepal-China Cultural Exchange Center. The pillar, adorned with intricate Chinese calligraphy and Buddhist symbols, stands as a testament to the deep cultural exchange between the two nations.
“This pillar signifies the deepening of our friendship and cooperation with China,” said Prof. Bajracharya. “We are grateful for China’s continuous support in the development of our university and look forward to further collaborations in the field of education and culture.”
Li Pozyu expressed his optimism about the future of Nepal-China relations. “This pillar is a symbol of our shared commitment to peace, prosperity, and cultural exchange,” he said. “We are confident that this initiative will strengthen the bonds between our people.”
The event also featured a presentation by renowned Chinese calligraphy artist Kwan Tong, who explained the significance of the calligraphy inscribed on the pillar. The bodhi leaf and the Buddha image depicted on the stone symbolize the profound knowledge and enlightenment that Buddha attained.
The establishment of the Friendship Pillar marks a new chapter in the long-standing relationship between Nepal and China. It is expected to foster greater cultural exchange, academic cooperation, and people-to-people connectivity between the two countries.
