Republic of Buryatia, Russia – August 2024
A delegation from Lumbini Buddhist University, led by Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Subarna Lal Bajracharya, visited the Republic of Buryatia, Russia, from August 9th to 16th, 2024, to participate in the Second International Buddhist Forum. The delegation also included Dr. Manik Ratna Shakya, Dean of the Faculty of Buddhist Studies, and Dr. Kumar Khadka, Coordinator of the Center for International Relations, Lumbini Buddhist University.
During the forum, the Lumbini Buddhist University delegates presented academic papers, shared their insights on Buddhist studies, history, and research methodologies. Prof. Dr. Subarna Lal Bajracharya delivered a keynote speech at the forum’s closing ceremony, highlighting the significance of global cooperation and dialogue in advancing Buddhist education and fostering intercultural understanding.
In addition to participating in the forum, the delegation held high-level discussions with key officials from the Republic of Buryatia. The delegation met with the head of the Republic of Buryatia and the Mayor of Ulan-Ude City to exchange ideas on promoting Buddhist education and cultural exchange. These meetings underscored the growing importance of Buddhist education in fostering peace, mindfulness, and spirituality on a global scale.
As part of the visit, Lumbini Buddhist University signed two significant Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to enhance international collaboration. The first MoU was signed between Lumbini Buddhist University and the Foundation for the Promotion of Buddhist Education and Research, with the aim of boosting research partnerships and academic exchanges in Buddhist studies. The second MoU was signed Between Lumbini Buddhist University and Banzorav Buryat State University, with the aim of establishing a formal academic partnership to strengthen educational ties between the two institutions.
This visit marks a new chapter in Lumbini Buddhist University’s ongoing efforts to expand its international partnerships and enhance research opportunities in the field of Buddhist studies. The collaborations initiated during the forum reflect the university’s commitment to fostering global connections and sharing the rich heritage of Buddhist education with the world.
