Lumbini, June 16, 2024 – Lumbini Buddhist University welcomed its newly appointed Registrar, Dr. Tilakram Acharya, in a ceremonious event held today. Dr. Acharya officially took charge of his new role on Sunday, following his appointment by Hon. Prime Minister and Chancellor Pushpa Kamal Dahal on June 14th. The position had been vacant for almost three months.
The welcome ceremony was attended by the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Suvarnalal Bajracharya, who praised the newly established standard in the appointment process. “The University has set a new benchmark by appointing qualified individuals through an open and competitive process,” he said. Dr. Bajracharya emphasized the importance of this meritocratic approach, which ensures that only the most capable candidates are selected for such critical roles.
Reflecting on the appointment process, Dr. Bajracharya expressed his satisfaction with the choice of Dr. Acharya, noting his eight years of experience and the fortune of having him selected through this rigorous process. He underscored the necessity of continuing this approach for future appointments to maintain the University’s high standards.
In his address, Dr. Acharya outlined his vision for the University’s next decade. He stated that while the previous tenure focused on the construction of physical structures, the upcoming period will prioritize enhancing academic quality. “We will work on plans to elevate the University to international heights,” he said. Dr. Acharya is committed to leveraging collective support to transform the University significantly.
Dr. Manikaratna Shakya, Dean of the Faculty of Buddhist Studies, expressed optimism about the University’s future under Dr. Acharya’s leadership. He highlighted the need for both physical and academic progress as part of the new mission.
The ceremony concluded with professors, teachers, and staff extending their warm congratulations and best wishes to Dr. Acharya, marking the beginning of a promising chapter for Lumbini Buddhist University.
