Lumbini Buddhist University with the support of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Hosts Successful Faculty Training & Workshop: Second and Third Phases

Lumbini, August 4, 2024 — Lumbini Buddhist University (LBU) recently concluded the second and third phases of its Faculty Training & Workshop, held from August 2nd to 4th at the university’s Central Office. This significant event saw the participation of 30 dedicated faculty members, reflecting LBU’s commitment to enhancing educational practices and fostering professional development among its educators.

The 40-hour workshop focused on several key themes crucial for advancing higher education in Nepal. Esteemed experts from various academic fields led the sessions, offering valuable insights and practical strategies for faculty members to implement in their teaching and research activities.

  2. Overview: Dr. Khanal’s session emphasized integrating competency-based learning approaches into the university curriculum, promoting a more effective and outcome-oriented education system.
  3. Lesson Planning in Classroom Teaching and Uses of Technology
    • Speaker: Dr. Tikaram Paudel
    • Overview: Dr. Paudel provided comprehensive guidance on developing effective lesson plans and incorporating technology to enhance classroom teaching and student engagement.
  4. Evaluation and Assessment in Higher Education in Nepal
    • Speaker: Prof. Dr. Peshal Khanal
    • Overview: Prof. Dr. Khanal discussed contemporary methods and best practices for evaluating and assessing student performance to improve the overall quality of higher education in Nepal.
  5. Aligning the Curriculum with the Job Market/Labor Market

The Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Subarnalal Bajrachrya, highlighted the importance of faculty training, emphasizing that teaching is one of the most prestigious professions. Faculty members must maintain and conduct themselves according to the core values and ethics of academia. They should come up with innovative ideas for the development of Lumbini Buddhist University and commit to continuous education.

The Registrar Dr. Tilak Ram Acharya, shared that the workshop was a great experience, reflecting on the importance of initiatives like the National Higher Education Project (NHEP) and Labor Market Driven Program (LMDP). He emphasized the need for continuous training practices and the value of diversity among faculty members. The Registrar also highlighted the university’s commitment to continuing such training programs through external and internal grants.
