Lumbini Buddhist University Hosts “Interaction Program on Buddhist Teachings and Academic Innovation”

Lumbini Buddhist University (LBU) organized a remarkable interaction program titled “Exploration of Buddhist Teachings and Innovative Academic Practices” on 29th December 2024. The event brought together esteemed scholars, professors, and students from LBU and Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), Maharashtra, India, fostering cross-cultural academic collaboration.

The event commenced with a solemn offering of the Five Precepts by Bhikkhu Vajirasri, followed by a Mangal recitation led by Rev. Lama Guru. As part of the traditional Buddhist welcome, holy Khadas were offered to the Buddha statue and honored guests.

Distinguished Guests and Speakers

The program was chaired by Dr. Sharda Poudel, Associate Professor, and featured renowned scholars, including:

  • Prof. Mahesh Deokar, Head, Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies, Savitribai Phule Pune University
  • Prof. Bimalendra Kumar, Pali Department, Banaras Hindu University (BHU)
  • Prof. Basanta Bidari, Senior Archaeologist and Head, Department of Archaeology, LBU
  • Prof. Lata Deokar, Department of Pali, Savitribai Phule Pune University
  • Asst. Prof. Truptirani Bhaurao Tayade, Savitribai Phule Pune University

The event began with welcome remarks and an introduction to Lumbini Buddhist University by Mr. Fanindra Kumar Neupane, Campus Chief of City College, Butwal.

Key addresses included:

  • Prof. Mahesh Deokar on the historical and philosophical significance of Buddhist teachings.
  • Prof. Bimalendra Kumar on integrating innovative practices in Buddhist Studies to address contemporary challenges.

The interactive Q&A session, moderated by Prof. Basanta Bidari, provided a platform for insightful discussions between scholars and students from both institutions.

Token of Metta and Closing Remarks


In a gesture of gratitude and goodwill, a Token of Metta was presented to the delegation from Savitribai Phule Pune University. The program concluded with closing remarks by the chair, Dr. Sharda Poudel, who emphasized the importance of academic partnerships in preserving and promoting Buddhist heritage.

The interaction program successfully highlighted the shared commitment of LBU and SPPU to academic excellence and cultural exchange, setting a milestone in collaborative efforts for the exploration of Buddhist teachings and innovative educational practices.
