Lumbini Buddhist University (LBU) has taken a major step in expanding its global academic footprint by signing an extensive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Oxford Chester University of Higher Education (OCU). The agreement establishes a comprehensive framework for cooperation in teaching, research, innovation, and academic mobility.
The signing was marked by the presence of distinguished representatives from the LBU delegation, including:
- Most Venerable Rev. Dr. Assaji, Hon. Chancellor, Oxford Chester University of Higher Education
- Dr. Dulan Hettiarachchi, Founder, Oxford Chester University of Higher Education
- Professor Gamini Ranasinghe, Advisor, Oxford Chester University of Higher Education & Dean, University of Sri Jayawardenapura
The partnership outlines a wide spectrum of collaborative activities between the two institutions. These include:
- Joint online and on-site lectures, workshops, trainings, and academic meetings
- Faculty and student exchange for research and educational advancement
- Collaborative research projects, including co-investigator roles in funded proposals
- Encouragement of joint publications between researchers of both universities
- Shared access to library and research facilities to enhance learning and scholarly productivity
- Establishment of innovation-focused linkages to support entrepreneurial and interdisciplinary initiatives
- A detailed framework for joint ownership and registration of intellectual property developed under the partnership
One of the most forward-looking aspects of the MoU is the commitment to explore dual degree programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. These will involve:
- Development of a credit transfer and course recognition framework
- Joint curriculum design reflecting the strengths of both universities
- Structured student mobility opportunities
- A coordinated academic advising system
- Regular evaluation and refinement of the program
- Mutually agreed-upon fee structures based on student duration and program requirements
Speaking on the significance of the agreement, LBU representatives expressed confidence that the partnership would expand global academic exposure and strengthen research capacity. OCU dignitaries highlighted the alignment of both institutions’ educational values and their shared commitment to advancing innovative, internationally oriented education.
