Lumbini Buddhist University Delegation Participates in 20th UN Day of Vesak in Vietnam

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam – May 9, 2025 — A distinguished delegation from Lumbini Buddhist University (LBU), Nepal, led by Dr. Tilak Ram Acharya, successfully participated in the 20th United Nations Day of Vesak (UNDV) celebrations held from May 6 to May 8, 2025, at the Vietnam Buddhist University, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

The LBU delegation included Mr. Manik Ratna Shakya, Dean of the Faculty of Buddhist Studies; Mr. Rajendra Ghimire, Coordinator of the Centre for International Relations; and Mr. Rabin Panthi. Their active engagement in the event highlighted Nepal’s enduring contribution to the global Buddhist community and reaffirmed Lumbini’s central role as the birthplace of Lord Buddha.

The UNDV 2025 brought together delegates from over 80 countries and territories, including renowned Buddhist leaders, government dignitaries, scholars, and policymakers. This year’s celebration held profound significance, coinciding with two major milestones in Vietnam’s history: the 50th anniversary of the reunification of Vietnam (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2025) and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2025).

The celebrations featured a rich tapestry of cultural and spiritual activities, including an exhibition of sacred relics—notably the Buddha’s relics from the National Museum of India and the sacred heart relic of Bodhisattva Thích Quảng Đức (1897–1963). Participants were also treated to international cultural performances, vibrant Buddhist exhibitions, and bilingual academic panels in English and Vietnamese, all centered around the theme of Buddhism’s role in promoting global harmony and human flourishing.

LBU’s delegation contributed to academic dialogues and cultural exchanges, fostering stronger ties with international institutions and furthering Nepal’s commitment to Buddhist education and peace-building.

As a symbolic and spiritual bridge between ancient wisdom and modern diplomacy, the LBU delegation’s presence at UNDV 2025 underscored the university’s mission to advance global Buddhist scholarship and strengthen Nepal’s voice in the international Buddhist community.
