Kathmandu, December 30, 2024 – A historic event unfolded at the Prime Minister’s Residence, Baluwatar, as Lumbini Buddhist University (LBU) and Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) jointly inaugurated the China Institute of Nepal. This significant initiative aims to strengthen Nepal-China academic and cultural relations through collaborative research and educational exchanges.
The ceremony, chaired by Rt. Honorable Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli, saw the signing of a formal agreement between Prof. Dr. Subarna Lal Bajracharya, Vice Chancellor of LBU, and Prof. Dr. Duan Peng, President of BLCU. The Prime Minister also unveiled the institute’s plaque, symbolizing its establishment.
Dr. Kumar Khadka, Director of the LBU Devdaha Education Development Project, introduced the teams from both universities and emphasized the importance of this cooperation for Nepal-China relations. The Prime Minister extended his best wishes for the collaboration, expressing optimism about the establishment of the China Institute of Nepal in Lumbini and the Nepal Institute of China in Beijing, envisioning them as pivotal platforms for fostering bilateral relations.
The event was conducted by the presence of dignitaries, including Tilak Ram Acharya, Registrar of Lumbini Buddhist University Dr. Manik Ratna Shakya, Dean of the Faculty of Buddhist Studies, LBU, Mr. Rajendra Ghimire, Coordinator of the Center for International Relations, LBU.
During the program, Prof. Dr. Duan Peng highlighted BLCU’s unwavering commitment to the success of the China Institute of Nepal. Similarly, Prof. Dr. Subarna Lal Bajracharya reaffirmed LBU’s dedication to fostering this collaboration, emphasizing its potential to bridge academic and cultural ties between the two nations.
The Prime Minister commended the visionary efforts of LBU and BLCU and urged both institutions to leverage the partnership to promote education, research, and cultural exchanges.
