Kathmandu, March 24, 2025 – In a significant development for academic and medical research collaboration, Lumbini Buddhist University (LBU) has signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the prestigious China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences (CACMS). The agreements were formalized in an auspicious ceremony held at the China Culture Center in Kathmandu.
The first MoU was signed by LBU’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Subarna Lal Bajracharya, and Dr. Li Qiuyuan, President of Xiyuan Hospital under CACMS. The second MoU was signed between LBU and the China Institute for History of Medicine and Medical Literature, represented by Prof. Zhen Yan, President of the Chinese Institute.
These agreements mark a major step towards fostering collaboration in various fields, including:
- Conducting high-quality research activities
- Organizing exchange programs and talent cultivation training
- Establishing a collaborative research center at LBU dedicated to Sowa Rigpa medicine
The newly proposed research center aims to cultivate highly skilled professionals specializing in traditional and integrated medicine, particularly in the field of Sowa Rigpa. The exchange program was coordinated by Dr. Sagar Neupane, Coordinator of the Traditional, Buddhist, and Integrated Medicine Research Center at LBU. Dr. Neupane conveyed the university’s commitment and shared strong support from both the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar for this collaboration.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Yu Linyong, Vice-President of CACMS, expressed his deep interest and optimism for building a long-term and practical partnership with LBU. He emphasized the importance of working together in fields such as Ayurveda and Sowa Rigpa medicine to enhance academic exchange and research development.
Both institutions expressed their enthusiasm for joint efforts in clinical research, service-oriented talent development, and herbal plant research. This landmark MoU underscores LBU’s dedication to advancing its academic and research presence in the field of traditional medicine, opening new avenues for international cooperation and knowledge sharing.
