A high-level delegation from the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) under the Ministry of Education of China visited Lumbini Buddhist University (LBU) on August 29, 2025, to discuss establishing LBU as Nepal’s hub for Chinese language studies.
The delegation was led by Ms. Yu Tianqi, Deputy Director of CLEC, and included Mr. Yin Dongmin, Director of the Division of Academic Cooperation, and Mr. Li Zheqiu, Program Officer of the same division.

On behalf of LBU, the meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. Subarna Lal Bajracharya, Vice Chancellor; Dr. Tilak Ram Acharya, Registrar; Dr. Manik Ratna Shakya, Dean of the Faculty of Buddhist Studies; Dr. Hari Sharana Chakhun, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences; Dr. Gitu Giri, Director of the Lumbini Research Center; Dr. Kul Prasad Khanal, Director of the Planning and Monitoring Division; and Dr. Kumar Khadka, Director of the Devdaha Education Development Project.
During the meeting, the two sides held in-depth discussions and reached a consensus on strengthening cooperation in the localization of Chinese language education in Nepal. Special focus was placed on training Nepali teachers and expanding Chinese education in primary and secondary schools across the country.
This visit marks a significant step in deepening academic and cultural cooperation between Nepal and China, while also enhancing Lumbini Buddhist University’s role as a hub for international education, research, and cultural exchange.
Discussions were also held regarding the establishment of a Confucius Center at Lumbini Buddhist University. At present, the university has already launched Chinese language courses at the undergraduate level.

A total of 47 students from Lumbini Buddhist University have received scholarships to pursue their studies at universities in China. Just a few days ago, they were extended congratulations and best wishes by Hon. Chhabilal Bishwakarma, Former Minister and Member of the House of Representatives, along with the university officials.
The university has also signed agreements with four municipalities to conduct the BTCSOL (Bachelor of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages) program in different parts of Nepal, namely: Uttargaya Rural Municipality of Rasuwa, Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality of Sindhupalchok, Gauradaha Municipality of Jhapa, and Gaurigunj Rural Municipality of Jhapa. Classes are scheduled to commence in these four locations from this academic session.
The university is also operating a Chinese Language Testing Center, through which hundreds of students from Nepal and India have benefited by participating in the monthly examinations, according to Assistant Director and Information Officer Churamani Pokharel.
Furthermore, in order to facilitate Chinese tourists visiting Lumbini, the university has also integrated Chinese language courses into the BTTM (Bachelor’s in Travel and Tourism Management) program.
