Buddha Jayanti Celebration 2024: A Tribute to Peace and Enlightenment
Lumbini, Nepal – May 22, 2024
We are writing to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who made the Buddha Jayanti Celebration on May 22nd, 2024, a resounding success. This event, held in Lumbini Buddhist University Auditorium Hall, Lumbini, Nepal, to commemorate the 2568th birth anniversary of Lord Buddha, was a truly special occasion that brought together scholars, dignitaries, and members of the community in a spirit of learning, peace, and shared devotion.
The celebration was a collaborative effort made possible by the partnership between the Indian Embassy Kathmandu Nepal, Lumbini Buddhist University, the Embassy of India in Nepal & BP Koirala India-Nepal Foundation, and the International Buddhist Confederation. This synergy created a platform for insightful discussions and a deeper understanding of Buddha Dharma’s profound impact on global peace.
The day’s program offered a rich tapestry of experiences. The Academic Symposium at Lumbini Buddhist University, focusing on “Buddha Dharma and Global Peace,” provided a thought-provoking platform for renowned scholars like Prof. H.P. Gangnegi, Prof. Basanta Bidari, Dr. Arun Kumar Yadav, and Dr. Kumar Khadka to share their knowledge and perspectives.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Ms. Geetanjali Bradon, First Secretary (Press, Information and Culture), for her gracious welcome remarks.
We are also grateful to Mrs. Kalpana Harijan, Deputy Mayor of Lumbini Cultural Municipality, and Ven. Phupu Chhembe Sherpa (Khenpo Geshe Thupten Jikdol), Chairperson, for their insightful contributions.
The offering of Five Precepts served as a beautiful reminder of the core principles of Buddhism, while the remarks by Mr. Vijayant Thapa, Director of the International Buddhist Confederation, and the Representative of Lumbini Cultural Municipality, further enriched the program.
The closing remarks by Dr. Nir Bahadur Gurung, Acting Dean, Faculty of Buddhist Studies, LBU, perfectly encapsulated the spirit of the day. Finally, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Dr. Bimalendra Kumar, ICCR Chair, Lumbini Buddhist University, Lumbini, Nepal, for his thoughtful vote of thanks.
This Buddha Jayanti celebration served as a powerful reminder of the Buddha’s message of compassion, non-violence, and understanding. By bringing together scholars and representatives from India and Nepal, the event fostered a spirit of collaboration and a shared commitment to promoting peace based on the Buddha’s teachings.
Thank you once again to everyone who made this event a success. May the Buddha’s message continue to inspire and guide us all on the path to lasting peace.
