Prof. Gitu Giri, over 40 years of experience in teaching and research, has served as a Professor at Tribhuwan University and a Founder Visiting Professor at Lumbini Buddhist University. He has involved in many national and international seminars, workshops and symposiums. His 30 books are published. He has completed 31 research projects of UNESCO, ADB, DFID, UGC, CNAS, T.U Research Center, Lumbini International Research Institute (LIRI), Nepal Academy and Nepal Government. Giri has been awarded Regional Pratibha Prize, National Pratibha Prize and Peace Award for his work in history, culture and Archeology, focusing on Buddhism. He is involving in social activities. His career goal is to explore, research and publication of tangible and intangible cultural heritages of Nepal, especially in Buddhism.
Prof. Gitu Giri is the Director of the Research Center at Lumbini Buddhist University. His active participation in national and international seminars, workshops, and symposiums has enriched his teaching and research. Prof. Giri has completed many research projects, his focus area is archaeology, art, architecture and philosophy, especially in Buddhism.
His achievements have been recognized through various awards, including the Education Prize from the Nepal government Ministry of Education and Sport in 1997, the Srijansila Pratibha Samman in 2000, and the National Pratibha Prize in 2011 for his contributions. Other notable awards include the Mehendra Vidya Bhusana “Ka” in 2002, the Ambassador for Peace Award in 2005, and the Siddhartha Prize and Awards in 2010 and other two dozens.
Prof. Giri is actively involved in social activities. He has engaged with more than twenty-five institutes and organizations in the region, contributing his expertise. His leadership and contributions continue to inspire students and colleagues alike, promoting a culture of excellence and social responsibility.
