Dr. Niranjan Man Singh Basnyat, born on July 25, 1955, is a seasoned diplomat and academician with an impressive journey in international diplomacy. Holding a Ph.D. in International Relations and Diplomacy, with a dissertation on “Nuclear Insecurity in South Asia” from the Centre for Diplomatic and Strategic Studies, School of Higher International Studies in Paris, France, he has dedicated his career to advancing global understanding and cooperation. Dr. Basnyat’s educational background also includes an MBA from Tribhuvan University, Nepal, earned in 1980. With a wealth of experience, he served as the Ambassador to Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines from November 2013 to February 2018. Throughout his career, he undertook various roles, including Director (Nepal) at the SAARC Secretariat, Kathmandu, and Charge d’Affaires a.i. at the Nepalese Embassy in Paris. His contributions extend beyond traditional diplomacy, as he was elected President of the Lumbini Research Centre for Understanding and Peace in April 2019. Dr. Basnyat’s dedication to fostering global connections and promoting peace is evident in his multifaceted career spanning decades.
