Master of Arts in Translation and Interpreting

The Master of Arts in Translation and Interpreting will give you the practical, theoretical and academic training you need to work at the heart of cross-cultural communication. It will inculcate students in various academic activities that include core course, general elective, and methodology taught courses, a compulsory thesis, research paper, translation work, experience of seminar or conference. This curriculum is designed to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge for effective translation and interpretation between Chinese and Nepali preparing them for various roles in various fields.

Learning Objectives

The core objective of the course of study has been designed with the following learning objectives:

• Develop professional competence in translating and interpreting specialized topics, such as legal and business document translation
• Learn how to manage terminology, use translation technologies, and negotiate the cultural and intellectual boundaries of the Chinese and English-speaking worlds
• Gain theoretical understanding of translation and interpreting, and apply it to your practical learning
• Study in intensive small group sessions, autonomously through learning technologies, and in connection with industry partners – including placement opportunities in professional translation and interpreting environment

Method of Evaluation

1. 1. Academic performance of students will be evaluated on the basis of individual course for all the courses registered for the program. The final grade will be determined by aggregating the course-wise grades.
2. Performance of a student will be judged by:
   1. Class attendance 10%
   2. Internal semester assessment 50%, and;
   3. End semester paper 40%
   4. In any semester a student will register for the courses offered by the University in that semester as per the approved curriculum of the concerned program.
   5. The course-wise weights for the continuous internal semester assessment and external semester examination will be as given below.

7. The continuous internal semester assessment shall be taken by the concerned course tutor in any of the following ways (individual or group):

• Written test
• Workshop practice
• Project work
• Viva-voce
• Home assignment
• Power Point Presentation in concerned topics
• Translation
• Institution-based studies
• Organize or participate seminar/ workshop/ conference
• Publications of research article
• Social works
• Meditation practice in the home etc.
